The first round of the Coupe de France was at Dijon on Sat 8th/9th May. Rick was the only Brit to make it out there partly due to the short notice for the event. Saturdays timed practice didn't go too well and 5th was the best he could manage.
In the first race suspension settings caused trouble so no progress was made and the calibration for the speedlimiter was also incorrect so a 10 second penalty for overspeeding was applied taking him back to 6th place.
The second race turned out to be a reverse grid putting Rick in pole, from the start he lead all the way to the finish never being challenged ,but the calibration was still out and a half a kph overspeed cost him a 30 sec penalty taking him back to 5th again.
More adjustments for the final and the threat of rain made him more confident and after 3 laps he made 1 place, 2 more laps saw another place gained, then the rain really started to slow Frank Conti and Noel Crozier down, each lap saw the gap close but with only 1 lap to go Conti and Crozier were still in front, drafting Conti all the way down the very long start straight Rick pulled out to the outside in the braking zone and drove all the way round the outside of Conti into 2nd place, Crozier now 20/30 metres ahead was soon caught and again was passed round the outside of a tight left hander which Crozier had hugged to keep the door shut.
The last 3rd of the lap was taken with more care and Rick finished ahead of Crozier by 2.5 secs, hopefully the first of many more wins in the Coupe de France.
