Coupe de France at Magny Cours
1st June, 2010 « Back
Last weekend was the second round of the Coupe de France at Magny Cours, there were four British competitors racing, Roger and Carl Brookfield, Adam Atkins and Richard Collett.

Saturdays timed practice seemed to go well but Richard was dissappointed to be only seventh. But sunday-race day the weather seemed to go in his favour as there were intermittent showers however after the first race he went from 7th to finish 4th,- the rain unfortunately brightened up!

The second race saw a reverse grid which put Richard 3rd on the start grid at the side of France's champion 'Noel Crozier' With a good start he immediately went to 2nd place and after one lap hit the front where he managed to extend his lead and finish 6 seconds ahead of Noel who had been held up by a big crash between Yvan Gaillard and Phillipe Arlaud, unfortunately during the race a cracked manifold saw a problem develope with a lack of turbo boost resulting in an increased level of smoke for Richards truck. Attempts to repair the problem for the final where Richard was starting on pole position were only temporary.

On the start of the final Noel had the better start and was in front at the first corner, Richard chased him hard for 6 laps and was rewarded by taking the lead for 2 laps but was then given the black and orange flag, after returning to the pits so Lyndon could try to make an adjustment to the truck he returned to the track now in 5th place where he finished. A technical infringment by another driver may have promoted him to 4th place.

Adam Atkins was pleased with the increased performance of his White Roadboss as his new Detroit engine became more driveable after undergoing calibration work on it.

Roger and Carl also had an enjoyable weekend although Carl suffered from turbo trouble.

There were gymkana events i.e. a mechanics event which none of the Brits entered and also a go stop event which they did enter and Carl Brookfield won and Rick came second.

We now look forward to Nogaro where Richard hopes to strengthen his position of 2nd in the Coupe de France.
