David Jenkins secures third trucks win of the weekend
27th March, 2011 « Back
David Jenkins triumphed for the third time this weekend after a more straightforward win in the eight-lap qualifying race for today's final trucks contest.

Richard Collett once again took second with Cees Zandbergen third despite a mid-race off at Paddock Hill Bend.

Jenkins made a better start from pole position this time, and ended the first lap half a second clear of Collett. By the second lap the leading pair of Jenkins and Collett were already moving away from the rest of the field, with Jenkins stretching his lead to 0.9 seconds, despite Collett appearing to close in at Druids hairpin.

Zandbergen looked to have thrown away third position on lap four after locking up into Paddock Hill Bend, an unforced error that saw him take a trip through the gravel, allowing Luke Taylor to squeeze past. Zandbergen though was straight back on the pace and forced his way back past Taylor on the following lap.

Meanwhile the gap at the front was up to 1.9 seconds, but with traffic ahead once more on the final lap it looked as though it would be a repeat of today's earlier championship event. But on this occasion Jenkins was able to keep a gap between himself and Collett while lapping slower trucks, and won by 1.3 seconds.

West Kingsdown racer Stephen Powell secured seventh, with all 14 trucks that started the race making the chequered flag.
